What have the seasons got to do with how “green” your wedding is?

What have the seasons got to do with how “green” your wedding is? A lot, actually!

I have been talking about sustainable weddings for a while now and of course, I always think about the seasons when planning a wedding. However, until now, I have always advised that couples start with looking for and finding their wedding venue.

How wrong I was! I would like to add here that I know I might be stating the obvious for a lot of people!

Once you have a date for your wedding, start with the season! The season you are getting married in, the most obvious first step.

Let’s face it. It is impossible to have a sustainable wedding if you are getting married in the summer but you ask for spring flowers! Or if you are planning a winter wedding but you fancy fresh, young summer vegetables to go with your main course.

Trust me, everything will look so much prettier if you use flower decorations that are in season and they will also feel more natural. I’d say that the more natural they feel and look, they are probably going to be more sustainable, too.

There are more and more British florists who grow their own seasonal, pesticide free flowers, so why not do a search to see who you find locally?

Think about seasonal colours, too, although the good news is that your colour choices alone won’t have any effect on the carbon footprint of your wedding.  It’s purely a personal choice!

So, think about the seasons and the seasonally grown flowers and food before you start your venue search.

Holding baby Grace. We always recycled and cared about what we eat, but as Grace turned 2, something inside me has really changed. I changed. I became obsessed with how humans live on this planet and how we all must change the way we live.

How did I get here…?

As I am sitting on a sunny beach in Devon watching my 8 year old playing in the sea, I reflect on the past 5-6 years of my life and how my passion for positive change started.

My first wedding fair

On the 17th September, I attended my first ever wedding fair as an exhibitor. I remember being so nervous, I was shaking like a leaf while I was setting up my table and looking around, checking out what the other exhibitors offered.
